Prime Minister of Ethiopia - Medemer Campaign

Medemer is a philosophy adopted by the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Dr. Abiy Ahmed. Contextually, the term conveys the ideas of synergy, the principles found with inclusive practices and a collectivist approach.

Hilina

Ethiopian folktale is filled with the ideals of unity, cleverness, collective force and shared national identity. “Hilina”, told metaphorically shows how complex issues can be solved through dialogue and reflection. Using the axe as the foe, the story follows how the forest trees come together to resolve their issues. Moreover, this story highlights the importance of harvesting solutions from where problems sprout.

Weret

The short film follows a fictional journey of a young girl who eventually grows up to realize her full potential. Capturing the current reverence in Ethiopia, reflected through women in high and prominent positions, the ideals of ‘Medemer’ unfolds in the story told of this young girl. The measure of any country’s progress is exhibited in how we collectively ‘add’ or ‘Medemer’ to the lives of all children in every facet of their being. Whether through elders sharing wisdom, community workers sharing best practices or mentors that shape the wonders of young minds from near and far. Investing in all children especially young girls by providing the necessary conditions for them to grasp their dreams by armoring them with quality education will pave the way for a better, brighter and more prosperous Ethiopia for all.

Adwa

When we rise together, by investing in the well-being of others and work towards a collective goal, we can achieve goals that were once unreachable. And once united, we can overcome any obstacle or challenge. Adwa is a reflection of how Ethiopia’s ancestors came together, setting aside their differences to accomplish what was previously impossible.

The Battle of Adwa is a poem written by Lemn Sissay celebrating the triumphant win of Ethiopia against the Italian forces in 1896. The victory at Adwa liberated Ethiopia, and was instrumental in empowering other countries on the continent of Africa to gain their independence.

Hagerawi Kurat

Wisdom is passed down from one generation to the next. Ethiopia’s history has shown that success comes with unity, prudence, strength, and determination. Our heroes, such as Ethiopian track and field athlete, Abebe Bikila, who broke barriers to create a path for those who followed, exemplified and carried the emblem of what it means to be an Ethiopian.

As the first African to win an Olympic medal and the first man to ever win two Olympic marathons, Abebe was known for his grace, stamina and patriotic spirit. During the 1960’s Olympics, Abebe Bikila stunned the world as he completed the marathon barefoot.
